Do you get your ‘5 a day’? No, not the fruit & veg but the things you want to enjoy and fill your everyday life with! Have you ever stopped to plan your life as a whole? Have you ever wrote down a life vision beyond your career ambitions, or goals beyond a weekly to-do list?
Imagine how you could shape your life if you started planning and making conscious choices towards a fully rounded, happily balanced life, including everything you ever wanted!
Impossible – you may scream! But it doesn’t have to be. It’s your life, and you have the power to shape it!
Let’s play a little game.
What if life balance was like eating your greens?
With a little bit of commitment and a conscious choice to eat 5 a day you can start shaping your life to what you want. But now we are not talking vegetables, but the concept of time. Achieving life balance, what ever it means to you, can only be achieved by making better choices with our time.
1) Accept that your life is shaped by your own choices, daily
Everything comes down to how we spend our time. Become more conscious of what you say ‘yes’ to and when you say ‘no’. Take time to write down in your journal what you have said ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to during the day.
2) Make ‘me-time’ a priority
We women put the wellbeing of others before ourselves. In the long term this will start to hurt us. ‘Feed’ yourself first. Energised and happy person has much more to give to others than someone who’s burned out or victimised about the burden they have to carry.
3) Plan to make time
Include all important areas of your life in your weekly planning, first. Then leave out the rest. Rushing around from task to task will not create balance, you must make time to plan how you will spend your time more wisely.
4) Time = money
Two concrete resources at your disposal are time and money. If you have lots of time, you can start generating more money. Lots of money on the other hand creates financial freedom = freedom to do what you want with your time. To increase resources you must start ‘saving’ either money or time and invest it better than you have done in the past.
5) All this takes a lot of time
It isn’t going to be a short or an easy path to ideal life balance, and the target may even change over time. It’s important not to have wrong expectations about quick wins.
However, nothing should stop you from implementing elements of your ideal life balance immediately in small dosages and then improving the scenario as you move along.
Wishing you all well balanced week!
